Pony Owners 2020 will not take place.

It is with considerable disappointment that the organisers of the Owners, Pony and Young Riders Charity Show confirm that the 2020 Pony Owners Charity Show will not go ahead.

At all times, the committee had considered the health and safety implications of staging the event; cognisant of the fact that it is a charity show. Various alternative conditions under which the show could take place in Millstreet’s Green Glens Arena were considered but the Irish Government’s decision to introduce Level 3 Covid-19 restrictions for a three week period has ultimately resulted in the show being unable to proceed.

In any case, the committee and organisers were mindful of risking the health of riders, officials, family members, staff and all involved who travel to the Green Glens Arena from all parts of the country. We appreciate that many riders and long-standing supporters of the show will be disappointed by this announcement. This year would have seen the ‘Pony Owners’ committee celebrating 20 continuous years of hosting the charity show at Millstreet where the Duggan Family have offered their facilities free of charge on each occasion.

2020 has been a particularly challenging year for charities that rely on public donations. The Pony Owners committee are aware of the impact which the absence of this year’s show will have on the charities that we donate to annually. To that end, we ask you to consider donating what you can to the charities listed on our website; many of whom are independent organisations that receive little (if any) support from Government.

As we acknowledge that we will be living with Covid-19 for the foreseeable future, it is in all of our interests to take individual responsibility for our actions to fight the virus and reduce the burden on the emergency services in the period of uncertainty that lies ahead. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the many families who have suffered the loss of loved ones throughout this pandemic.

We look forward to 2021 with optimism.
